Cali sunset

And the award for the best sunset of the summer (or the year) goes to

My last night in Santa Monica was spent eating thai food and watching the sunset!! I can not remember the last time I saw such a vibrant sunset (or sunrise for that matter) the colors were incredible. As the sun was going down the sky when from intense yellow to the most amazing pink and purple it honestly looked like the sky was on fire.

santa monica pire

On my first morning I decided to have my breakfast down at the beach looking up at the pire (i felt i needed a moment alone just to take everything in. (Looking back I honestly can not believe I was there). At night they sometime do fireworks sadly I didn't get to see that, it is also a the prefect spot for watching the sunset and is where I witnessed the most epic sunset of the summer!
at the end of the pire you'll find people fishing and chilling in the sun. I would go as far as calling it my favorite part of the Los Angeles area. It is also where the final stop of the famous route 66 ends.

arriving in California

(flying over London, before catching my flight to LA)

Palm trees, white sand, sunshine, lifeguards, salty wind and seagulls screaming in the distance can't believe I'm in California!

After 12 hours of flight I arrived safe and sound at LAX. This was my first time ever flying completely on my own with no one else to rely on (and guess what I made it!). It was dark by the time I landed, getting in the sketchiest taxi I've ever been in, So thankful I made it to the right hostel from now on I'm only using Uber to get a ride.
The hostel I stayed at was located on 2nd street which meant that it was only one block from the beach ( HI-Los Angeles, Santa Monica Hostel).  Never having stayed at a hostel before I was pleasantly surprised by the standard, with complimentary breakfast, several rooms you could hangout in with various games even an outdoor area.I stayed in a 6 bed all female dorm room with some lovely girls.
My first night in Santa Monica was spent with some the same girls I was sharing a dorm with (so nice of them to show me around) we set out on a mission to find chocolate gelato, after walking up and down  2nd and 3rd street for about an hour with no sign of gelato we had to admit our defeat and returning to the hostel empty handed. It wasn't all a waste though, I got a pretty good recommendation on a juice bar near the hostel, all organic and freshly made (can't get more cali than that?)

The last day before I was meeting up with the group I was gonna be traveling with (more on that in a later post) I wanted to walk  from Santa Monica to Venice beach..all along the board walk you'll see people working out doing sports. Suddenly you smell it.. the incense (probably weed) and you spot the hippies, you know you've hit Venice beach. Along the Venice there are artist of all kinds, fortune tellers, and palm readers. People in costume..the perfect spot if you like people watching like me!
It was nice walk except for getting a light sunburn and weird tan lines on my legs. You can obviously take the bus or rent a bike to Venice but walking just seem like the better option it only took 45 minutes anyways.

What I like about Santa Monica is the lifestyle, laid-back urban living. Beach as far as the eye can see, the weather is perfect. Definitely my favorite area in Los Angeles, I never felt unsafe the entire time I was there. Even when I was walking by myself which is a bit of a concern when traveling alone (in my opinion).

Ive come to the realization that I haven't been writing or posting anything since spring, which is a shame! I never intended to go so long with out a post and to be honest I'm disappointed in my self.
A lot has happened since then, like the fact that  I got a new job and at one point I was juggling 3 at once. I went to America for 3 weeks, road tripping around the west-coast. Safe to say its been hectic couple of months! but I'm so grateful!  I've meet some pretty great people through all of this and I've gained so many new experiences some good some not so...
Now that things are finally slowing down a bit and I've had some time to regroup I`ll be able to post more frequently. Expect a lot of american related posts coming up in the near future.

-How has your summer been? Tell me all about it!

deep in the forest

Went to a place I haven't been in ages, a little lake or rather a swamp located not far from my old school. I remember going here with my fellow classmates exploring the woods and playing among the trees.

As the sun was setting this place jumped into my brain and I got in the car and drove of.
For a bit I just stood there in amazement at how beautiful this place was. The thick forest, with the trees covered in green moss, the river splitting it into two sections and leads you to the lake surrounded by mountains and little frogs hopping around.

busy days

Its been super busy lately, so a hike through the mountain was just what I needed. Whenever I have a lot on my mind I always find comfort in nature. Walking amongst the trees helps too clear my head and re energize me for what ever may come my way.

**Happy Birthday Norway**

17th of may is Norways national day, where we are celebrating our constitution and our independence  from Sweden. My day will be spent at home with family, eating my own bodyweight in ice cream.
Have a great day everyone!

spring golden hours

For once I was in the right place at the right time (with some planing, of cause). Hiking upon a mountain top where I knew I would get a great view of the sun setting without any thing standing in the way..ahh perfect.

a white spring

Once again I got up really early and went hiking (as I've mentions in a previous post, <sunrise fail>).
Just as you think summer is on its way, its starts to snow (#norwegianspring).
Fresh snow from the night covered the trail, I had to fight my way through some heavy branches and bushes that were covered in snow..Which all hit me in the head and went down my shirt.. I cursed every time.

There was a moment when the sun hit the snow and an amazing steam covered the entire view, it was  like taking a lid of a pan with boiling water. AMAZING!
It all reminded me of the "Misty Mountain" song from the hobbit.

I have a part 2 coming up so stay tuned for that :)
